Since the Industrial Revolution, the carbon sequestration capacity of forests has been related to the ability to reduce atmospheric CO2 and curb global warming.Forest structure and composition is the basis of forest management, and the study of the structure and biomass carbon storage will become particularly important.Forests are an important component of terrestrial ecosystems and of urban land as economic and cultural center.Urban forest plays an important role in the human environment. Therefore, the imformation of structure and composition of urban forest with its biomass carbon stocks can provide a powerful recommendations and basis for ecological environment construction and healthy development.Based on ecological investigation method, the vegetation composition and structure of the campus in Anhui Agricultural University were investigated as an urban forest. The results of the study are as follows. Results revealed that there are 31 families,56 genera, and 70 tree species recorded in the campus greening.Deciduous trees covered 60.32% of the total tree number.Based on the tree number, the dominant tree species were Platahus acerifolia,Cedrus deodara,Cinnamomum camphora,Metaseguoia glyptostroboides,Magnolia grahdiflora,Sabina chinensis var.chinensis cv.Kaizuca and Ligustrum lucidum. The mean DBH of trees was 24.52 cm,with the minimum DBH of 3.18 cm and the maximum of 76 cm on the campus greening. The trees with height between 5 m and 10 m accounted for 51.52% of the total, and height between 10 m and 20 m accounted for 31.44%.The total biomass of the campus greening was 1189.98 Mg,and the total carbon storage was 594.99 Mg.The average carbon storage per tree was 507.4 kg for the conifers and 224.2 kg for the broadleaf trees.Based on the mean biomass carbon storage per tree,Cedrus deodara,Platahus acerifolia and Cinnamomum camphora are the main tree species that have great carbon sequestration. The stem carbon storage of the above-mentioned 7 dominant trees accounted for 50.35%,85%,26.3%,73.03%,45.29%,55.85% and 20.01% of the whole tree, respectively. The branch carbon storage accounted for 15.23%,5.35%,34.38%,8.72%,7.95%,23.29% and 24.93%.The leaf carbon storage accounted for 4.03%,4.45%,16.54%,2.32%,30.8%,20.03% and 10.22%.The root carbon storage accounted for 30.38%,5.2%,22.77%,15.93%,16.57%,0.84% and 14.84%.The order of carbon storage in organs was ranked as stem> root> branch> leaf for Platahus acerifolia and Metaseguoia glyptostroboides, for Cedrus deodara and Ligustrum lucidum the order was as stem> branch> root> leaf. While for Cinnamomum camphora, the carbon storage in organs was ranked by branch> stem> root> leaf, for Magnolia grandiflora,it was ranked as stem> leaf> root> branch. The order for Sabina chinensis var.chinensis cv.Kaizuca was as stem> branch> leaf> root.
