The plant litter play a leading role in the effectiveness for vegetation to the soil erosion, only to achieve a certain degree of coverage and thickness, the effect can be worked. It is very important to estimate the spatial distribution characteristics of litter layer and to carry out dynamic monitoring, which is very important for evaluating the effect of different levels of vegetation community. In this paper, the 8 OLI and ASTER data as the research area in the Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi Province as the research area, the whole research work of remote sensing data source is used as the data source of Landsat. By analyzing the spectral characteristics of different coverage and soil mixed scene, the possibility of remote sensing method is determined. The correlation analysis is conducted to determine the optimal index, and the spatial distribution characteristics of the regional litter cover is analyzed. The research results are as follows:1. According to the measured spectral analysis of the different coverage of the indoor and outdoor soil mixed with soil, the spectral difference between the litter layer and the soil was found. The model of the litter layer coverage based on the measured data was constructed, and the possibility of the remote sensing estimation of the cover was determined. The results of spectral analysis show that there is a high spectral similarity between the visible and near infrared (VIR-NIR,400~1100nm), the litter layer and soil, while the SWIR (1100-2400nm) and the soil have their own unique spectral characteristics. In addition, through the analysis of decaying vegetation index with litter layer coverage change trend, and two correlation analysis, screened out optimal decaying vegetation index, and the optimal index to estimate dry fall layer coverage to verify the validity, confirmed the remote sensing means for estimating litter layer coverage.2. The estimation model of litter coverage of multi-source remote sensing images is constructed, and the validity of the model is verified. Based on Landsat 8 OLI image and ASTER image calculated related to the decline of vegetation index and correlation analysis with the measured coverage, verifed the decline of vegetation index ndsvi and sindri index can be used for construction litter cover remote sensing model for extracting, construction of the multi-source remote sensing image dry fall layer coverage estimation model; and through experimental verification blight fall layer coverage to validate the validity of the model, show that this research based ndsvi index multispectral remote sensing model of dry fall layer coverage inversion effect better, in order to retrieve the dry fall layer coverage.3. The inversion coverage of the litter was classified, and the spatial distribution characteristics and influencing factors of the litter coverage in the study area were analyzed by the land use data.
