In this paper,we chose C.korshinskii Kom of different slopes in Huanghuadiazi watershed, the agro-pasture zigzag zone.Inner Mongolia as the study object. After completely investigating the plantation density, site condition, forest age,we analyzed the relationship of water content with C.korshinskii Kom fine roots characters(fine root quality, root length, specific root length, root surface area and volume). And the relationship between fine roots and dry soil layer was revealed as well. The study we carried on was meaningful to understand the relationship between fine roots and water content, and helpful to chose afforestation species. The results showed:1.The soil water content and fine roots various indicators showed a decline trend. The maximum always appeared underneath the standard plantation.Through correlation analysis of fine roots characters and soil water content,we found a significant between them. The correlation showed:slop top>slop middle>slop bottom. The correlation between fine roots characters and soil water content showed:surface area(0.832)>volume(0.766)>biomass(0.704)>length(0.672)>specific length(0.602).The correlation between surface area density and soil water content was significant.2.A model relationship between surface area density and soil water content was established.3.Through comparing the fine roots growth rate(kth)and soil water content supplement rate(iht),we found the slope position has a significant effect on them, especially on the vertical direction. The region where negative kth and iht appeared in slope top accounted for 15%of the whole soil layer,in slope middle account for 5%.But at slope bottom, there was no negative kth,and iht.4.The soil water content of 0-200cm soil layer was was seriously short. To compare the soil water content of abandoned land and C.korshinskii Kom land in this area,we found the former was 41%less than the latter,so the C.korshinskii Kom was the main reason leading to the soil dry layer. And there was at least 200cm-deep dried soil layer in C.korshinskii Kom land,70cm-deep temptate layer of it even approached withered moisture.
