Qinling Mountains has a very important forest ecosystem in central China,Studying the distribution and characteristics Change of forest vertical zone in north and south slope of Qinling Mountains, plays an important role in protecting and managing the forest ecosystem, rational utilizing the forest resources, maintaining the integrity and forest ecosystem sustainability of Qinling Mountains and promoting its normal ecology process and evolution. In this paper, taking Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi Province as the study area, based on the MODIS13 Q1 data of Qinling area from 2000 to 2015,the forest types of the north and south slope of the Qinling Mountains were classified using the decision tree classification.According to the DEM date, construction of vertical distribution patterns of forests at different elevation levels on the north and south slope of Qinling Mountains.Compare the different level of elevation between the north and the south slope in Qinling forest spatial distribution difference, and analyzes its characteristics.Combined with the temperature, precipitation, population and other data, analyzing differences between north and south slope in Qinling forest vertical distribution and its reasons for such changes. At last the following conclusions are obtained.(1)From 2000 to 2015,the spatial vertical distribution in north slope of Qinling Mountains is approximately the same with southern slope. From the foothills to the top of the mountain are divided into 4 forest vegetation belts, along with the elevation from low to high, respectively, are foothills agricultural vegetation belt, mountain deciduous broad-leaved forest belt, mountain coniferous forest belt, alpine shrub meadow zone.On the basis of the 4 forest vegetation belts, they can be further divided into 7 forest vegetation belts--foothills farming vegetation belt, deciduous broad-leaved quercus forest, deciduous broad-leaf sub-zone,acutesenata forest deciduous birch forest, fir forest sub zone coniferous belt, coniferous spruce forest sub belt, sub Alpine coniferous redwood belt, sub forest irrigation grassland belt. But the altitudinal patterns of the seven forest vegetation zones are different in the north and South slope.(2)The north slope of Qinling Mountains is narrow and steep, and the forest species are more and more frequent, with deciduous broad-leaved forest as the base. The South slope of Qinling Mountains is gentle;the forest vertical band shift is also relatively flat with elevation, with subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest belt as the base. And the southern slope of woodland low line is slightly higher than the north slope, and woodland up line lower. The distribution range of deciduous broad-leaved forest and coniferous forest in southern slope is larger than that in northern slope.(3)The distribution and change of the forest vertical zone of the north and south slope of Qinling Mountains were caused by the combination of topography, climate, soil, population and policy. From 2000 to 2015,the effect of temperature on the vertical distribution of forest is greater than that of precipitation. In the human factors, the population factor has a significant correlation with the vertical distribution of Qinling forest at an altitude of less than 1500m,and the policy of returning farmland to forest has a great influence on the middle and low mountainous areas and low hilly areas of Qinling Mountains.
