He-long region is located in the middle reaches of the Loess Plateau, where soil erosion is very serious because of the complex terrain.Based on the RUSLE model and GIS platform, this paper analyzed the change of soil erosion nearly 50 years in the west bank of He-long region, through the data of DEM,rainfall, remote sensing image, soil and land use type. This study shows that:Soil erosion present downward trend from 1956 to 1989,the amounts of soil erosion decrease from 93.73 t·hm-2·a-1 to 79 t·hm-2·a-1.In the spatial distribution, water erosion area of northwest is higher than wind erosion area of southwest, and south is lower than north inside water erosion area.Meanwhile,we should notice short-term heavy rainfall has a great effect on the result of calculation. The study areas with different slope gradients, different land-use types and different geomorphological developmental stages have obvious soil erosion differences. The region with lower gradient is mainly slight soil erosion, but the region with large gradient is mainly severe erosion and the change range of erosion amount is large. The area percentages of dry lands and lawns are large in the whole district. The soil erosion is severe in dry lands and lawns,so the dry lands and lawns become the main source of soil erosion. The study area is in the mature stage, and the terrain is complicated, that is primarily slight erosion and severe erosion. In comparison to the actual erosion of study area, both the erosion modulus and erosion amount of the potential erosion have increased 3 times approximately. The potential erosion amounts of dry lands and lawns are maximum among it.The study shows that the vegetation coverage and soil and water conservation measures have significant effects on preventing soil erosion.Meanwhile, the dry lands and lawns should be seen as the focal point of controlling in the process of controlling soil erosion.
