Coral reef ecosystems have very high fertility, and were one of the most fundamental and the most significant ecosystem in the tropical ocean. Whereas,in recent years, the species and quantity of coral reefs were both decreasing due to the increasing human activities and environmental deterioration.Coral reef ecosystems all over the world have been suffering degeneration. With the purpose of protecting the coral reefs and exploring the relationship between coral's growth and water quality factors, we detected the coral's growth and water quality factors of each position on Dazhou Island, Wanning city, Hainan province and then got the point of the relationship between coral's growth and water quality factors. From February to May,with the water temperature rising, the growth of Acropora Formosa per month were also rising: 0.35cm/month?0.47cm/month?0.60cm/month?0.99cm/month.With the detection of Acropora Formosa's growth rates and water quality factors,we have known the coral's growth rates and DIN?DIP?COD?suspended matter have notable negative correlation. Exorbitant inorganic nutrient salt may inhibit the growth of coral reefs. The DO were always suitable for corals in the experiment, thus we have not found the relationship between DO and the growth rates of corals. The result about the study of Acropora Formosa and Acropora hyacinthus's growth rates and the water temperature showed that coral 's growth rates and water temperature have positive correlation between coral's optimum temperature. The result about the study of Acropora hyacinthus's growth rates was that Acropora hyacinthus's growth showed exponential form growth, as to say, the bigger initial area, the more quickly it grow. The average growth are: 10.09%?13.82%?11.06%?20.92% from February to May. Acropora hyacinthus's growth rates and water temperature have positive correlation between coral's optimum temperature.Acropora hyacinthus's growth rates and DIN?DIP?OD?suspended matter have notable negative correlation. We have not found the relationship between DO and the growth rates of corals. On the sight of space,Acropora Formosa's growth rates of Area 1,Area 3, Area 4 are: 0.43cm /month?0.70cm /month?0.67cm /month respectively. Area 1 is closer than Area 3 and Area 4 from the fisherman's place of residence. From the data above we know that the corals in Area 1 are growing slower than Area 3 and Area 4, so we speculate that the fishermen's activities may inhibit coral's growth rates.Because the fishermen are inevitably producing domestic waste water and dropping anchor from their boats.Although Area 3 do not have coral reefs due to the sand bottom, the water qualities are quite suitable for coral to live. The corals transplanted to Area 3 from Area 1 are growing faster than the native area. Therefore, it is feasible to put in "Artificial coral Reefs" to restore the coral reef ecosystems in Area 3...
