Thinopyrum,a wild relative of wheat,contains a variety of fine genes.It is a source of three genes of wheat.Thinopyrum intermedium is particularly prominent in resistance of stress,coldness,drought,lodging resistance,salt and other aspects,with rich underground stems grown in poor and marginal land,which plays a positive role in dust prevention,sand fixation,soil and water conservation.Ten new germplasms of cold-hardness perennial wheatgrass which selected from hybrid offsprings of Trititrigia and Thinopyrum intermedium were the materials for the cytological detection and morphological analysis in the research.It is concluded that the natural growth periods of the 10 materials were all more than 3 years,and 8LF21-1-4 has growth for eight years,and all of them had cold-resistance and perennial characteristics,even in winter of Harbin with low temperature under-30 ?they were safe.The roots were developed.In addition to 8LF21-1-4 and 11LF31-1-4,the other lines had underground stems.The plants were lush growth,and there were 5 lines with tiller numbers more than 40 and there were 2 lines with spike lengths more than 24 cm.The average seed setting rate of 11LF3 1-1-4 and 11LF4 1-18-1 was above 80%,which was much higher than that of Thinopyrum intermedium.The germination rate of the 10 seeds was between 60-90% and the stem dry weight of 5Q10L1-18-1 was up to 1.7kg / ?.Strain 11LF3 1-1-4 seed protein content as high as 22.26%.The somatic cell chromosome of root tip were all 42,which showed genetic stability,and the resistance of drought,cold,salt,disease and other characteristics.It is provided theoretical and material foundation for forage grass breeding in the northern cold land.Through breeding,the results of this research can be used as a new germplasm resource of perennial wheat in cold areas,and planted in barren.It was also applied in the new green agriculture for improving soil structure and biodiversity,as well as reversing soil erosion and fertility degradation.
