China has faced many plagues in history:every four years a plague happens in the 3000-year time during 770 BC-AD 1911. China’s 3000-year plague record history is the world’s longest chronological history. The data of China’s plague history is big in amount and time range, so a database that is practical and useful considering China’s local condition is needed to be built for better research on finding the discipline of time-space distribution rule of plagues. Thus, it is meaningful to transform accumulated information into well-structured, rich-contented and accurately categorized charts and maps, and build a plague history database. By storing, managing, maintaining its data and with the help of visualization and spatial analysis, we can learn the cause, kind, space-time distribution and frequency of plagues.WebGIS is a combination of Geographic Information System and Internet, which has become a significant direction in Geographic Information Service (GIS) development. GIS has greatly influenced information share. More and more corporations and organizations have developed their geographic space data and application into GIS for a broader public and personal access and use. Since it is not easy to acquire plague history data, it is important that others, for their research, may use the published online data and information in this thesis concluded from the storing and managing plague history database. Therefore, it is practically significant that this thesis focuses on the WebGIS-based "Geographic Information Service of Chinese plague in Ming Dynasty"This thesis has studied the creation of "China’s Plague Geographic Information System of Ming Dynasty" and its space-time distribution. The main works are as follows:(1) Summarized the related achievements of the geographical data of Chinese plague at home and aboard; discussed contemporary research situation and development trend of WebGIS in the field of plague geography; analyzed the advantage of "geographic information system of Chinese plague" in data quality, system function, data sharing and other aspects comparing to the related research at earlier times in China.(2) Built a spatial database through textual researching, sorting and classifying the historical data of plague in Ming Dynasty, which can be visualized and spatial analyzed on GIS platform.(3) Published the "Geographic Information Service of Chinese plague in Ming Dynasty" through the related technologies of WebGIS, which realized the functions of online query, visualization, spatial analysis, thematic map making, etc..(4) Analyzed the distributing regularity of the plague in Ming Dynasty in terms of time and space, situation of plague that outbroke in Chongzhen Dynasty is the most serious, followed by Wanli Dynasty and Jiajing Dynasty; plague outbroke in Jianwen Dynasty and Hongxi Dynasty is the lightest. In Ming Dynasty, the quantity of the countries where plagues happened presents a fluctuation with increasing trend. The 5 crests occurred respectively in 1400-1409,1450-1459,1520-1529,1580-1589, 1640-1649, and reached the summit in the late Ming Dynasty, among which the strongest fluctuation occurred in 1580-1589 and 1640-1649. As for the places where plague outbroke most frequently, they formed two "plague bands":one band distributed mainly in Nanzhili while another band in Jiangxi Province and Fujian Province, decreasing from the northeast to the southwest in the whole. The hot spot of plague most distributed in the Northeast area, and the cold of plague distributed in the Southwest area.
