Objective:the beagle model, lateral femoral condyle fracture internal fixation by using biological glass composite polyether ether ketone made from artificial screw lateral femoral condyle fracture treatment, to evaluate the effect of artificial fractures.Methods:18 beagle established as model of lateral femoral condyle fractures (AO type B1 type), depending on the fixed materials into three groups:control group (group pure PEEK) and experimental group BG20/PEEK(20wt%BG +80wt%PEEK) artificial screw group, experimental group BG40/PEEK (40wt%BG+60wt%PEEK) artificial screw group, each group of 12 specimens. Postoperative observation of experimental animals generally, and then respectively at 4,8,12 weeks after the operation were randomly selected from each group of four specimens, by gross observation, X-ray and CT imaging examination, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measurement, scanning electron microscope and picric acid magenta color, into bone mass analysis to observe fracture healing.Results:(1) 12 weeks the screw shape integrity, no loose, shift and rupture. X-ray and CT slice, the fractures are healing gradually, with the extension of time experimental BG40/ PEEK healing more BG20/PEEK and PEEK group healing preferred; (2) in experimental fracture bone mineral density in the control group,8 weeks of peak.8 weeks after bone density difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P< 0.05); (3) the result of picric acid poinsettia staining shows:the experimental group were not seen obvious inflammatory reaction at each time point after screw around, the experimental group BG40/ PEEK around screw bone tissue is relatively mature, and bone tissue is arranged closely, screw, directly contact with bone tissue. (4) Three kinds of screw BIC increased with postoperative time increasing, and BG40/PEEK screw bone combined with the highest degree, BG20/PEEK, PEEK is lowest. The same material, different period BIC are statistically significant differences between groups (P< 0.01), BG20/PEEK in the 12th week after operation is significantly higher than the 8th week, showing that BG20/PEEK in the later can effectively promote bone union; BG40 is significantly higher in the 8th week after operation than the4th week, there was no significant difference between the 8th week and the 12th week after operation(P> 0.05), which shows the bone compatibility of BG40/PEEK screw is higher in previous performance; PEEK screw was no significant difference between different times (5) The bone mass analysis:as the screw into the extension of time, around the new bone mass increases, and reached the highest in the 12th week. Compared to screw groups of BG20/PEEK and pure PEEK, BG40/PEEK screws have the highest new bone mass.Conclusion:The artificial screw with biological glass composite polyether ether ketone, fixed performance and has good biocompatibility, BG40/PEEK fixed properties and biological compatibility is better than that of BG20/PEEK. Pure PEEK has the characteristics of high strength, as PEEK composite BG, consequently increased its bioactivity and compatibility, the corresponding screw bending strength declined, provide experiment basis for clinical application.
