Objective:To study the expression level of cancer stem markers CD133,CD44 in lung cancer and investigate the relationship between the cancer stem markers expression and the clinical festures. Methods: The data of 98 patients with NSCLC operated at the first affiliated hospital of Wan Nan Medical College from June 1,2012 to December 31,2012 were enrolled in this study. All specimens were pathologically confirmed. All the patients never revieved any anti-tumor treatment like radio therapy and chemical therapy.Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of CD133 and CD44 in lung cancer tissues and matched normal tissues.Statistical software SPSS17.0 was applied to evaluate the relationship with TNM stage, histological type, lymph node metastasis and some other clinical features. Results: The positive expression rates of CD133 and CD44 were 81.25%(26/32)and 60.3%(41/68)respectively.There were no significant differences between the expression of CD133 and the age, gender, smoking history, histological differentiation,TNM stage and histological type(P>0.05);The expression level of CD133 in the patients with lymphoid metastasis was higher than that with non lymphoid metastasis, they were 81.25%(26/32)and 50%(18/36)respectively(P<0.05).There were no significant differences between the expression of CD44 and the age, gender, smoking history, histological differentiation and TNM stage(P>0.05);The expression level of CD44 in the patients with lymphoid metastasis was higher than that with non lymphoid metastasis, they were 75%(24/32)and 47.2%(17/36)respectively(P<0.05);The expression level of CD44 in squamous cell carcinoma was higher than that in lung adenocarcinoma, they were 72.5%(29/40)and 42.8%(12/28)respectively(P<0.05).Conclusion: This study suggests that CD133 and CD44 have close relationship with the occurrence and development of NSCLC,and CD133?CD44 may have an important role for the diagnosis of NSCLC.
