Hypoplastic vertebral artery(HVA) as one of congenital anatomical variations is relatively frequent, which supplies the blood for posterior circulation directly. Now HVA is considered to tend to increase the risk of posterior circulation ischemia. Posterior circulation infarction may result in high rates of mortality and disability. Therefore, it's particularly important to interfere the risk factors of cerebrovascular disease and prevent the occurrence of posterior circulation infarction, especially for the people with the HVA. This paper summarizes the early detection of HVA and the relationship between HVA with infarction positions in posterior circulation.
