Background: In recent years, high homocysteine(HHcy) have been usually found clinically in patients with atherosclerosis. Combined intervention to both of them has a profound significance in reducing cardiovascular disease clinically. Probucol, which plays roles in regulating blood lipid, oxidation resistance, anti-inflammation and improving endothelial function, etc., has been used as an adjuvant drug clinically to resist AS. It has been reported that probucol contributes to reducing Hcy in an animal experiment. There is no clinical studies focusing on the therapeutic effect about probucol combined with traditional medicine for HHcy and AS.Objective: In this study, the effects of probucol combined with rosuvastation, bayaspirin, folate and Vit B12 for patients with AS and HHcy were tested. Methods: 60 patients aged from 18 to 75 years old with HHcy and CAS were collected from December 2014 to December 2015 in hospital of traditional Chinese medicine of Laiyang as research objects. They were randomly divided into control group dosed with rosuvastation, bayaspirin, folate and Vit B12(30 cases) and treatment group dosed with probucol combined with rosuvastation, bayaspirin, folate and Vit B12(30 cases). In both groups, bayaspirin, rosuvastation, folate and Vit B12 were consumed with 0.1g/d, 10mg/d, 1mg/d, 0.4mg/d. Probucol was used in treatment group solely with dose of 0.5g/d.After treatment, the therapeutic effects between control group and treatment group were compared. For CAS, if the improvement of carotid atherosclerosis was more obvious in treatment group, we could conclude that probucol combined with bayaspirin and rosuvastation were more effective in treating CAS patients. For HHcy, if the reducement of Hcy was more obvious in treatment group, we also could conclude that probucol combined with folate and Vit B12 were more effective in treating HHcy patients. Results: After ten months' treatment, curative effect on CAS: The cure rate and effective rate in treatment group were 13.33% and 90.00%, respectively, while the corresponding values for control group were 6.67% and 76.67%, respectively. Dealt with statistics, the difference was non-significant(c2=2.379, P>0.05).Curative effect on HHcy: The cure rate and effective rate in treatment group were 6.67% and 90.00%, respectively, while the corresponding values for control group were 3.33% and 80.00%, respectively. Dealt with statistics, the difference was non-significant(c2=1.433, P>0.05).Comparison between treatment group and control group: The HHcy and AS were improved both in treatment group and control group. The difference of therapeutic effect between treatment group and control group was not significant. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that probucol combined with traditional drugs could not enhance the therapeutic effect for HHcy and AS. Larger sample size is expected to confirm this conclusion.
