Objective: To explore the effect of Zhuling decoction for Bovisbacilli Calmette Guerin(BCG) on bladder tumor induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea(MNU) in rats. Methods: Bladder carcinoma rats model was made by intravesical instillation of MNU. Meanwhile, rats were orally administered with Zhuling Decoction(0.75g/kg, 1.5g/kg, 3g/kg) regularly and intravesical administration of BCG on time. Animals were sacrificed after the experiment. The bladder, thymus and spleen indexes of all groups were calculated. Levels of serum Tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?) and Intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) were assayed by ELISA, and histological examination was done. Results: 1. Compared to the model rats group, there was no significant difference that the rats weigh given Zhuling decoction and food intake that all rats group. 2. The groups of middle and small dose of Zhuling decoction could reduce bladder index of rats with bladder tumor(P<0.05), but thymus index and spleen index have no significant difference(P>0.05). 3. The tumor pathological grades in Zhuling decoction groups were also descended, and the outcomes were not better than those of BCG group. 4. The level of serum TNF-?,ICAM-1 in Zhuling decoction group was decreased after treatment. Conclusion: Our findings convincingly showed that Zhuling decoction and its decomposed recipes inhibited the antitumor effect of BCG through declining the level of TNF-? and ICAM-1.
