Objective:Tea is widespread popular and beneficial to human body., which contains polyphenols, tea pigments, caffeine, amino acids, alkaloids and vitamins and so on. Researches of tea are more concentrated in the pharmacological effects, but the study of adsorption of tea on the teeth surface to prevent fissure caries has not been reported. The objective of study is to explore the feasibility of tea for the prevention and treating of fissure caries. It takes advantage of adsorption of tea to prevent fissure caries. And it researches remineralization of demineralized enamel by tea. We wish it becomes a assisted therapy of pit and fissure sealant. And it not only preventing fissure caries, but also accepting easily by children. Methods: 1. 102 extracted teeth were randomly assigned to concentration of 3mg/ml, 6mg/ml, 12mg/ml and 24mg/ml of green tea group, white tea group, oolong tea, black tea group and dental sealant group. Each group has six extracted teeth. After were soaked in 48 h, Using stereoscopic microscope and scanning electron microscope to observe adsorption of tea at the fissure.2. The preparation of different concentrations of black tea-BHI solid medium. agar dilution assay was used to determine minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) range of black tea. Enamel pieces were scanned by SEM to observe the situation of adhering by S.mutans.3. One hundred and four bovine enamel pieces which had been produced early artificial caries were randomly divided into 4 groups(Group A:deionized water;Group B:2mg/ml tea polyphenols;Group C:24mg/ml Na F;Group D:24mg/ml black tea) for 48 h to enhance remineralization. After experiment, the effects of different treatment were observed by surface microhardness(SMH) and confocal laser scanning microscope(CLSM).Results: 1. With increasing concentration of the same kind of tea, the amount of adsorption at the fissure increases. In the same concentration, black tea is better than other kinds of tea. But green tea has not adsorption at the fissure by SEM observing. It shows that the different group of data was statistically significant( F=540.719,P﹤0.05). With LSD test compared between two groups, it shows that statistically significant difference between groups(P﹤0.05).2. The MIC values for black tea against S.mutans was 12mg/ml. The bacterial population of 3mg/ml、6mg/ml、12mg/ml 和 24mg/ml is less than of control group by SEM observing.3. The SMH of decalcified enamel of the groups of deionized water and tea polyphenols don’t change(P﹥0.05). But the SMH of the groups of Na F and black tea were increased, and the difference was significant(P﹤0.05). It means that groups of black tea and Na F have effect of remineralization to Demineralized enamel. The result of CLSM is same to SMH.Conclusions: High concentrations of black tea is better than other kinds of tea in the effect of adsorption of tea. And it can prevent and treat early enamel caries to some extent.
