Objectives To describe the status of stigma of people with schizophrenia and analyze the relationship between the stigma and medical-care-seeking behavior.Methods The study selected 239 inpatients with schizophrenia recovered period in mental illness hospital in Tangshan and Kailuan.Stigma towards Mental illness,helpseeking behavior were used to assess schizophrenics in group.Results The mean of stigma towards Mental illness scale is(42.91±14.73).Most schizophrenics think that they have been suffer from discrimination,prejudice and isolation.Discrimination and self-stigma widly exist in schizophrenics.The social activity in the schizophrenics was significantly different in terms of marital status(P<0.05),the score of married was lower than unmarried patients. The capacity and stigma in the schizophrenics were significantly different in terms of education level(P<0.05),the score of junior patients was higner than senior high school patients or technical school patients. The capacity and stigma in the schizophrenics were significantly different in terms of economic status(P<0.05). Monthly income <1000 was higher than the >3000yuan.The capacity,treatment and stigma in the schizophrenics were significantly different in terms of the course of disease(P<0.05). Patients with the disease duration ranged from 11 to 20 years compared with <5 years of stigma scores was significantly higher(p<0.05), but in long >21 and <5 had no obvious difference. Multiple stepwise regression showed that the cultural level into regression equation,cultural level Culture is the influence factors of stigma factors.The median duration of treatment for schizophrenia was 6 months.Medical delay was positively correlated with social factor,ability factor,treatment factor and stigma(P<0.05).The binary logistic regression analysis suggests that social factors may be the factors affecting the delay in medical treatment.Conclusions People with schizophrenia frequently suffered from stigma, and stigma to the patient’s life had a negative effect.The delay of help-seeking in pelpole with schizophrenia are serious.Help-seeking behavior of people with schizophrenia was predicted by patients’ stigma.
