Objective:To observe the CT findings of atlanto-axial joint degeneration and its growth with age.The purpose of our study is to determine the different clinical outcomes in CT reconstruction image of atlanto-axial joint and elucidate their clinical significance. Methods:Our study was a retrospective analysis of patients who had been by Department of Radiology in Shandong provincial hospital, between January 2016 and June 2016.We studied about 219 patients,125 males and 94 females with a median age of 52 years and an age range of 25 to 82 years, duration of 5 months to 10 years.219 patients with positive clinical symptoms of atlanto-axial joint CT scan reconstruction were performed. We divided the patients by age group on the basis of joint degeneration and statistical analysis was done. There were no statistically significant differences in sex distribution among the groups(age group<45 years,45-60 years,>60 years). Results:The degeneration of atlanto-axial joint has the characteristics of early, universal and sequential changes. The majority of the incidence of degenerative changes is a trend of increasing with age.Ligament calcification(34.4%)and bone bridge formation in cervical vertebra(36.1%)also became significant in the 60-year-old group. We also found that calcification of ligaments was a prominent feature after 60 years of age, indicating that CT is not only sensitive to bone structure, but also can accurately show degenerative changes in ligaments. Conclusion:CT manifestations of atlanto-axial joint degenerative changes reflect its pathological process and provide valuable information for clinical treatment.
