Effects Of Sulfuric Acid Etching And Adhesive On Bond Strength Between PEEK And Veneering Resin

Objective:To study the effect of sulfuric acid etching and adhesive on the shear bond strength of PEEK bonded veneering resin,and analyze the impact of sulfuric acid etching and adhesive on the shear bond strength between PEEK and veneering resin.Methods:One-hundred-sixty polyether ether ketone samples(8mm*7mm*3mm),embedded in the acrylic resin,were sanded with a series of silicon-carbide abrasive papers and finished with 800-grit paper.All specimens were cleaned in an ultrasonic bath for 10 minutes and dried using an oil-free air stream.PEEK samples were prepared and randomly divided into four group for surface treat:98%sulfuric acid etching group,G-bond group,98 sulfuric etching acid + G-bond group,and control group without treatment.Each group was divided into two subgroups of different veneering resins:GC Gradia resin and Ceramage resin.Using the mold to define the bonding area,form the same size of the cylindrical veneering resin on the bonding area,and then curing resin with the light curing machine.Half of each subgroup was randomly selected and immersed in distilled water at 37 ? for 24 h,and the other half was thermos-cycled 10000 times.The bond strength of samples was measured in a universal testing machine,and then analysed by ANOVA and SNK-q test in SPSS software.The failure types were assessed by stereomicroscopy.Result:The highest shear bond strength before and after thermo-cycling was observed for the group treated with sulfured acid,veneering Ceramage resin(P<0.05).After thermal cycling,all experimental groups showed lower shear bond strength(P<0.05),except sulfuric acid + adhesive treatment group,between PEEK and GC Gradia resin.Conclusion:The treatment with 98%sulfuric acid etching and the adhesive both can enhance the shear bond strength between PEEK and veneer resin,and the sulfuric acid etching is more effective on enhancement of shear bond strength.The bond strength between GC Gradia and PEEK with sulfuric acid+ adhesive treatment is more durable.
