Objective: To investigate the effect of autologous platelet rich plasma(PRP)application on the clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)reconstruction surgery. Methods: From August 2014 to August 2016,42 patients with ACL ruptures who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction surgery were randomly divided into two groups equally: 21 patients(PRP group)received graft soaked with PRP while 21 patients(control group)received routine graft in ACL reconstruction.Because 6 patients couldn't be followed up,17 patients of PRP grpup and 19 patients of control group were included in the study. In PRP group, there were 8 males and 9 females, and the mean age was 31.59(range,17~44).The mean body mass index(BMI)was 24.94(range,18.84~31.39).10 patients had injuried their left knees, and 7 patients had injuried their right knees. The mean disease duration was 11.82(range,2~28).In control group, the patients included 7 males and 12 females, with an average age of 33.68(range,18~44).The mean body mass index was 27.21(range,18.31~35.38).7 patients had injuried their left knees, and 12 patients had injuried their right knees, with an average disease duration of 10.21(range,3~34).The same surgeon performed all procedures with identical technique.VAS scores,Lysholm,IKDC activity scores and MRI examination were performed pre-operatively and at 3 months,12 months post-operatively.Further,second-look arthroscopy was also performed in some patients at 12 months post-operatively.SPSS Statistics 21.0 was applied for the data analysis. Results: No adverse reaction or post-operative complication was observed in two groups patients during 12 months follow up period.VAS scores,Lysholm,IKDC activity scores were significantly improved in both PRP and control group post-operatively.The knee function scores were statistically significant between two groups in 3 months, while not statistically significant in 12 months after surgery. The MRI scores in PRP group and control group were also not statistically significant post-operatively.Through the second-look arthroscopy, the patients in PRP group showed a higher ratio in ligamental remodeling and synovial coverage. Conclusion: PRP application in allograft ACL reconstructions results in a short-term improvement of patient reported knee function and pain reduction postoperatively, which may also accelerate a better remodeling graft.
