Background Scalp seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic type of inflammatory dermatisis that is associated with proliferation of Malassezia species, sebum secretion, immune status, age, climate and other factors. The professor Draelos ZD,etc.,had selected 363 cases of scalp seborrheic dermatitis patients, using 2% ketoconazole formula shampoo to wash their hair, per 2 times a week, treatment period lasting for 1 month, the clinical symptoms of these patients were improved in varied degrees, only a few number of patients occur adverse reactions, but they can tolerate these symptoms,it all proved ketoconazole formula shampoo is effective, and it can be used to treat scalp seborrheic dermatitis, and it is safe, patients is willing to accept this shampoo.Zinc-Pyrithione formula shampoo is also a commonly used antifungal active ingredient, founded in the 1950 s,was widely used in the treatment of scalp seborrheic dermatitis. As zinc-pyrithione has an antifungal activity mechanism, and the active components of zinc-pyrithione can be deposited and retained in the deep part of the hair follicles for a long time, thus lasting and deep sterilization function.Studies had shown that 2% ketoconazole formula shampoo or 1% zinc-pyrithione formula shampoo are effective for scalp seborrheic dermatitis. In recent years, with the development of traditional Chinese medicine in China, people are increasingly concerned about the anti-fungal effect of Chinese herbal medicine.Braga PC's study shows that the white willow bark extract, thyme oil have an effect on inhibition of Candida, but whether the effect on inhibition of Malassezia has not been reported in the study. In this study,a randomized double-blind controlled trial was conducted to observe the effect of plant formula shampoo on the scalp seborrheic dermatitis which containing the extract of white willow bark extract and thyme oil in order to provide the basis for clinical application. Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of the treatment of scalp seborrheic dermatitis and the antifungal activity of Malassezia of the plant shampoo which including the white willow bark extract and the thyme oil. Methods Clinical data of the 90 Patients diagnosed as scalp seborrheic dermatitis during 2015.10 to 2016.3 and 2016.10 to 2016.12 in the department of our hospital were randomized into three treatment groups, each group of 30 people: plant formula shampoo group,2% ketoconazole formula shampoo group, and 1% zinc-pyrithione formula shampoo group. There were no significant differences in gender, age and clinical severity scores between the groups(P >0.05).The clinical severity scores, sebum levels, skin hydration,p H,TEWL were assessed by the same dermatologists at baseline(week 0),and at 2 and 4 weeks after using the shampoo.Malassezia isolated from the lesions was made into bacteria-containing plates. The semi-diameter of the inhibition zones around drug-containing wells were recorded after a seven days icubation at 37?.Result The efficacy of the plant formula shampoo was compa rable to 2% ketoconazole formula shampoo and 1% zinc-prithione formula shampoo. Not find local and systemic adverse reactions.3 kinds of shampoo on the three kinds of Malassezia have produced inhibition zone. The radius of the inhibition zone of the plant formula shampoo group was the largest, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Conclusion Plant formula shampoo contains white willow bark extract and thyme oil could be useful in the treatment of scalp seborrheic dermatitis.
