Dendrobium is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine,It is mainly distributed in Yunnan province and the civil application is more extensive.At this stage of its clinical application and production and processing situation is relatively confusing.At present,there are many reports on the identification of Medicinal Dendrobium in China,but most of the researches focused on only a few species,such as Dendrobium nobile Lindl,D.devonianum Paxt,D.aphyllum,D.chrysotoxum Lindl,and D.fimbriatum Hook.In addition,the identification method is too simple and most species are in lack of systematic identification methods.In view of that,this paper carried out a comparative study on the identification of six kinds of Dendrobium officinale.This study is not only conducive to the normalization of the market and the protection for high-quality varieties,but also provides a theoretical basis for the development of new health care products and the research of new drugs.The identification study of D.aphyllum,D.aurantiacum Rchb.f.var.denneanum(kerr)Z.H.Tsi,D.moniliforme(L.)Sw,D.falconeri Hook,D.wardianum Warner and D.Chrysanthum Lindl was accomplished on the basis of their features of morphology,microscopic identification,thin layer chromatography(TLC)identification,ultraviolet(UV)discrimination,high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)analysis,and DNA molecular identification.Their morphological characteristics,microscopic characteristics of the transverse section and powder characteristics were compared through the features of morphology and microscopic identification.The basic characteristics of their chemical compositions were differenced by TLC analysis with erianin,dendrobium phenol,tristin(3,4’,5-three hydroxy-3’-methoxy bibenzyl)as the standards.Their differences in absorbance were concluded by ultraviolet spectrum identification,performing in the wavelength range of 200-400 nm.The HPLC method was used tocompare the content of Dendrobium phenol and Tristin in these six kinds of Dendrobium.DNA molecular identification was further used to confirm their source.The identification of these six kinds of Dendrobium can be achieved by the above methods,which can be used as the basis for the identification of Dendrobium.In the end,we summarized the research progress of Medicinal Dendrobium by consulting the literatures.
