Evaluation Of The Efficacy Of Cervical Perivascular Sympathectomy On Dysphagia And Drooling In Children With Cerebral Palsy

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of cervical perivascular sympathectomy(C PVS)for dysphagia and drooling in children with Cerebral Palsy(CP).Methods: S-tudy included 21 children(12 male and 9 female)with cerebral palsy in the surgical group,the average age was 6.1 years,at the same time,21 cases(13 male and 8 female)which matched the surgical group with age,sex,state of an illness were included in the control group.children were treated not only with CPVS but also routine rehabilitation in the surgical group,however,the control group only received routine rehabilitation.The severity of dysphagia and drooling of CP children with drooling were evaluated before CPVS,at 2th week and 6th month postoperatively by the swallow water tests and the teacher drooling scale(TDS).Results: Surgical children exhibited improvements on dysphagia and drooling according to the swallow water tests and the TDS score at 2th week after surgery(dysphagia is 3.05±0.97 vs 3.52±0.68,drooling is 3.00±1.00 vs 3.48±0.68,P<0.05).Comparing with the matched group at the same term,surgical children exhibited better improvements dysphagia and drooling,the outcome is significant(3.05±0.97 vs 3.29±1.01,3.00±1.00 vs 3.24±1.04,P<0.05).Then,when it is 6th month after surgury,surgical children exhibited unimprovements than before(P>0.05).However,improvements of surgical on dysphagia and drooling is still obvious than the control group,the outcome is significant(3.00±1.00 vs 3.24±0.99,2.95±1.02 vs 3.19±0.93,P<0.05).Conclusions: CPVS can improve dysphagia and drooling in some children with CP and their the quality of life.
