Objective: To explore the nutritional status and quality of life in patients with newly diagnosed esophageal cancer in northeast of sichuan and to analyze the relevant impact factors. Methods: Patients with esophageal cancer diagnosed by pathology were collected in northeast of sichuan.Evaluate the nutritional status by anthropometric indicators and laboratory index and quality of life by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life rating(EORTC QLQ-C30)and esophageal cancer supplementary(QLQ-OESl8)scales,and analyze the relevant impact factors of nutritional status and quality of life by univariate and multivariate analysis of SPSS in patients with newly diagnosed esophageal cancer. Results: 481 cases with esophageal cancer diagnosed by pathology were collected in northeast of sichuan.According to body mass index, serum albumin, prealbumin, transferrin, lymphocyte count, triceps skinfold thickness as evaluation index, the incidence of malnutrition was 11%,10%,90.9%,84.4%,80.9%,56.5%.With body mass index as the index, single factor analysis showed that the levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),the length of lesions>5cm and the degree of obstruction were related to the incidence of malnutrition in patients with esophageal cancer(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the levels of CRP and the degree of obstruction were the risk factors of esophageal cancer. The quality of life of the patients with esophageal cancer was poor, the overall quality of life score of the patients was 64.30±14.33,and the score of the functional areas from low to high was the social function, emotional function and role function.Single factor analysis showed that the overall quality of life, short of breath, diarrhea, cough, swallow saliva, speech and obstruction were related to the incidence of malnutrition in patients with esophageal cancer(P<0.05).Conclusions: The newly diagnosed esophageal cancer in northeast of sichuan is the high incidence of malnutrition. The levels of CRP and the degree of obstruction is the risk factors of malnutrition. The quality of life of the patients with esophageal cancer is poor, the malnutrition patients have worse quality of life.Clinical attention should be paid to the nutritional status in patients.
