Objective:To describe short and moderate-term follow-up of patients undergoing device closure of patent foramen ovale complicated with cryptogenic stroke and/or transient ischemic attack. Methods:We followed up 76 patients at Fuwai Hospital who successfully underwent device closure of PFO for secondary prevention of cryptogenic stroke/TIA from May 2009 to August 2016.All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography(TTE),electrocardiogram, chest radiography at 24 hours, first month, third month, sixth month after closure and then received the phone call follow-up every half year. Results:For all of the 76 patients,71 were cryptogenic stroke and 5 were TIA.73 of the patients(96.1%)used an Occluder from STARWAY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY.All of them took asprine after operation for six months. The mean follow-up was(35.34±23.46)months.No Recurrent stroke and/or TIA were reported. No right to left shunt was tested. Conclusion:Device closure of PFO can be performed safely with very good short and moderate-term secondary prevention from PFO related to cryptogenic stroke and/or TIA.
