BACKGROUND: Anemia is a commom phenomenon during perioperative.Although allogeneic blood transfution can increase hemoglobin concentration immediately and has been the most pervasive way to treat perioperative anemia nowdays, allogeneic blood products remain associated with a significant incidence of adverse reactions?Recombinant Human Erythropoietin(rh EPO)is genetic product of Erythropoietin(EPO),which elevating hemoglobin levels to improve symptoms of anemia and has been shown to be effective at reducing postoperative blood transfusion and get better outcomes.Recently, its application in improving perioperative anemia is becoming more and more widely. Objective: So as to provide some reference for the clinical treatment of perioperative anemia through rh EPO better by review current research in the perioperative application of recombinant human erythropoietin. Methods: To collect researches by computer from CKNI,VIP,Wanfang,CBM,MEDLINE,Pubmed,Elsevier and ISI Web of Science. Each database were searched both in English and Chinese.Chinese search terms are as follows: Recombinant Human Erythropoietin, anemia, perioperative,Patient Blood Management; The corresponding English search terms are :Erythropoietin(EPO)Recombinant Human Erythropoietin(rh EPO),anemia, perioperative,Patient Blood Management, iron, autologous blood donation. Results and conclusion: As one of the new method of individual transfusion strategy,rh EPO treatment is promising in both research and application.Rh EPO treatment combined with iron or ABD can do better in increasing hemoglobin concentration and has tissue protective effects at the same time. The safety of rh EPO treatment remain controversial;Standard treatment method still need further exploration.
