BackgroundThe discovery and application of pesticides have brought great benefit to human society, which is revolutionary for the economy and social development of developing agricultural country.Besides killing pests and providing enough food of high quality for human being, pesticide plays an important role in preventing the spread of pandemics, such as malaria. However, the widely use of pesticides has caused serious environmental pollution and acute or chronic harm, even including cancer,to hunman being.ObjectiveMost of studies about pesticides in China were focused on detection of the residue of pesticide in vegetables and marine products or ecological deterioration caused by the abuse of pesticides. But few is aiming at studying the association of pesticides and tumorigenesis and assessing the exposure to pesticide by detecting the load of pesticide in vivo. The aims of the present study are to review the association of pesticides and tumorigenesis,to evaluate the load of pesticides in non-occupational cohort by derecting the serum concentrations of DDT,PCNB,DDVP and cypermethrin among 160 Chinese and to analyze the inter-individual variations.Beside,we try to explore the way of eliminating pesticides through double membrane-hemofiltration.Methods1.Serum concentrations of DDT,PCNB,DDVP and cypermethrin were analysed by ELISA in 160 Chinese who were not under occupational exposure and ready to accept the double film-hemofiltration for eliminating heavy metal of the body. Then we studied the association between lifestyle factors(gender, age, body mass index(BMI),smoking)and the burden of pesticides in human being.2.After accepting the double film-hemofiltration for eliminating heavy metal for once, serum concentrations of DDT,PCNB,DDVP and cypermethrin were tested again and the difference of the two results were analyzed.Results1.Most of the existing epidemiological studies shows that pesticides might be one of the risk factors in tumorigenesis.Genetic toxicity and epigenetic alterations are the possible involved mechanisms.2.DDT,PCNB,DDVP and cypermethrin could be detected in serum of all participants. The median of DDT,PCNB and cypermethrin were higer for male then for female(P<0.05).There were positive associations between age and the serum concentrations of DDT,PCNB and cypermethrin(P<0.01),whereas the associations between age and serum concentrations of DDVP were inconsistent. There was no consistent association between BMI and all pesticdes studied.Smokers had higher DDT,PCNB and cypermethrin in their serum(P<0.05).3.After accepting the double film-hemofiltration for eliminating heavy metal for once,we could observe obvious reduction in serum concentrations of all pesticdes studied in most participants.Although a certain amount of pesticides could be detected in the filtrate, there were a few of the participants could be ovserved increase in serum concentrations of pesticides, which revealed that these people might need to accepting another once or twice more treatments.ConclusionPesticides exposure might be a risk factor of tumorigenesis. In our syudy,we found men had averagely higher serum concentrations of DDT,PCNB and cypermethrin.Age and smoking were consistent determinants of serum pesticides.ELISA is a reliable way to detect serum concentrations of pesticides. The double film-hemofiltration could effectively reduce the level of pesticides of human being and might be a conceivable method in the future.
