Randomized Clinical Trial For Cervical Spondylosis Treated By Jia Ji Points Deepness Acupuncture

Objectives The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of deeper acupuncture in jiaji points for the treatment of cervical spondylosis,in order to provide a more effective method of the acupuncture depth for the treatment of cervical spondylosis.Methods This study is a single blind randomized clinical trial.The diagnosis for the patients with cervical spondylosis was determined by " TCM syndrome diagnostic efficacy standards promulgated by The State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine." 96 patients matched the cervical spondylosis diagnosis standardization and enrolled in the trial.The patients voluntarily joined the test and signed informed consent.We recruited 96 patients who were randomly divided into two groups according to the random number table,deep acupuncture group and comventional acupuncture group(n=48,respectively).The depth of acupuncture in deep acupuncture group was 2~3 cun,and in the conventional acupuncture group 0.5~1 cun.4 neck Jiaji points were selected as the main points which located at the same level as the Tianzhu point(BL10)and the Jingbailao point.Depending on other symptoms of patients,the corresponding points were used at the same time in conventional acupuncture group.The needles were connected to an electroacupuncture device for treatment of 20 minutes and for the every the other day,3 times a week,and a total of treatment for 4 weeks.The patients were evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS)before the first treatment,at the end of the first treatment,the end of the first week and the end of the fourth week respectively.The function and quality of life of the patients were evaluated by Northwick Park Questionnaire(NPQ).The distances from the skin surface to posterior margin of intervertebral foramen was measured by MRI imagine and to find out the best acupuncture depth for the treatment of cervical spondylosis.All the experimental records are expressed with mean ± standard error of mean((?)±s).The data were statistically analyzed.Results 1 The VAS scores of both groups,the deep acupuncture group and conventional acupuncture group,before the first treatment,after the first treatment and after third treatment and after twelfth treatment were significantly decreased,and the degree of pain in patients was relief(P<0.05).2 The NPQ scores of both group,deep acupuncture group and the conventional acupuncture group,before the first treatment,after the first treatment and after third treatment and after twelfth the treatment were decreased,the life function of patients was significantly improved(P<0.05).3 Compared the VAS score with NPQ score between conventional acupuncture group and deep acupuncture group,the therapeutic effect of deep acupuncture group was better than conventional acupuncture group.4 The distance from skin surface to posterior margin of intervertebral foramen: Male:5.07~7.13cm;female:4.76~6.68 cm.Conclusions 1 Acupuncture Jiaji points can improve the patient's pain,promote functional recovery and improve the quality of life effectively.2 The deep acupuncture Jiaji point is more effective than the conventional method in the treatment of cervical spondylosis.3 Treatment of cervical spondylosis with deep acuouncture at Jiaji points is a safe and effective treatment method.
