The Imaging Studies Of Synovial Fluid Volume And Articular Cartilage Of The Adult Healthy Male Knee Joint In Different Age Groups

Objective To study the features of synovial fluid volume and articular cartilage of the adult healthy male knee joint in different age groups by MRI,and provide basic experimental data for the knee joint physiological changes and health.Methods 80 cases of 20 to 59 years old healthy male volunteers was divided into four groups by per 10 years old.All the cases performed continuous scanning images including the entire kenn joint on sagittal and coronal sections by T1 and T2 sequence on MRI in supine position.The tomographic images were analyzed and evaluated by several experienced radiologists.The thickness of articular cartilage in the anterior,medial,and posterior points of the medial and lateral condyles of the femur and tibia was measured.The volume of articular cartilage and synovial fluid was also measured by three-dimensional modeling software.The data was analyzed by SPSS17.0.Results Clear images of the knee joint of all 80 cases was acquired.The data,including the volume of articular cartilage and synovial fluid,the articular cartilage thickness of the femur and tibia,were acquired.The synovial fluid volume reduced with increasing age from 30 to 39 years old age group(F=52.207,P<0.01,t=2.376~7.234,P<0.05).The knee joint cartilage thickness and the cartilage volume remained relatively stable before the age of 40.The knee joint cartilage thickness in different parts of the femur and tibia reduced with increasing age from 40 to 49 years old age group(F=6.691~134.383,P<0.01,t=1.715~11.391,P<0.05).The articular cartilage volume reduced with increasing age from 40 to 49 years old age group also.(F=6.067~18.824,P<0.01,t=1.773~3.845,P<0.05).Conclusions The knee joint synovial fluid volume,the thickness of articular cartilage and cartilage volume reduced with increasing age.the change of the synovial fluid volume is early than that of cartilage thickness and volume.It has reference significance for clinical joint protection and the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis.
