| Objective:To observe the level of galectin-3(Gal-3)in children with Kawasaki disease(KD)in different periods and to analyze its relationship with coronary arterial lesions(CAL).Methods:Plasma level of Gal-3 was determined in 50 KD patients in acute stage(onset <11 day;before use human gamma globulin protein(IVIG))and subacute stage(the course of 11-21 days;after the use of IVIG;normal body temperature). And 20 healthy children were used as controls. At the same time, the general clinical data such as PLT,ESR,CRP were recorded.Subgroups were set up by whether occur CAL or not.Level of plasma Gal-3 and its relationship with platelet(PLT),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and C-reactive protein(CRP)were analysed. Results:The plasma Gal-3 concentrations in children with KD in acute and subacute phase were(14.64±1.99)ng/ml and(11.89±1.25)ng/ml;and the concentration in physical healthy children was(10.15±0.79)ng/ml.The plasma Gal-3 concentration of KD children was significantly higher than that in healthy children(P<0.05).The plasma Gal-3 concentration of acute phase was significantly higher than that in subacute stage(P<0.05).The concentrations of plasma Gal-3 in children of in acute coronary artery disease group(CAL group)and non coronary artery disease group(NCAL group)were(16.40±1.21)ng/ml and(13.77±1.48)ng/ml,respectively.The level of plasma Gal-3 in CAL group was significantly higher than that in NCAL group(P<0.05);at the same time, the level of plasma Gal-3 was positively correlated with the levels of PLT and CRP in the children with KD of in acute phase(P < 0.05).Conclusion:The plasma Gal-3 level of the acute phase in children with KD significantly increased, and decreased with the course of disease. The plasma Gal-3 level in CAL group were higher than those in the NCAL group.Significant elevation of plasma Gal-3 in patients with coronary artery lesions has a certain predictive value or can assist in the diagnosis of Kawasaki disease. |
