Jugular foramen area is a bone channel which consist of occipital bone and temporal bone, located in the temporomandibular joint, mandibular branch and cervical vertebral body center.Meanwhile,in the channel, the nerve, arteriovenous structure and its lateral cranial junction muscle are complex, difficult to reveal.Resulting in the operation of the region difficult and risky which always been neurosurgery and other relevant departments of the focus of common concern.Dumb-bell shaped tumors spread to a larger range in this area, often riding across the jugular foramen intracranial and external communication tumor. This summarize basic on previous understanding of the anatomy of the jugular foramen and the surgical approach, find an approach which suite for dumb-bell shaped tumors, that is,the large "C" shaped incision in the head and neck of the ear.In the cadaveric head on the anatomy, detailing the important structure of the jugular foramen and the relationship between them,to provide the basis for clinical work and experience, and understand its advantages and disadvantages.1 Full disclosure of surgical field of vision is a prerequisite for operation success."C"-shaped incision of posterior head and neck can not only on the intracranial tumor exposure,on the extracranial and upper neck surgical field exposure is also satisfactory. It can be easy removed in a one-stage procedure for the dumb-bell shaped tumors.2 Jugular foramen area and craniocervical junction area have a complex structure, including enormous muscle tissue and nerve structure.Grasping the neck of these anatomical structures can improve the rate of total resection, protection of cranial nerve and surrounding normal tissue, reducing the incidence of postoperative complications.
