Objective: To identify and review the orthodontic literature with regards to assessing possible differences in canine retraction rate during maxillary or mandibular canine retraction, using conventional brackets(CBs)and self-ligating brackets(SLBs)by Meta-analysis.Methods: The randomized controlled trials(RCTs)about comparison of the self-ligating brackets versus conventional brackets for canine retraction rate was collected from Cochrane Labrary,Web of Science,MEDLINE,EMBASE,PubMed,CNKI,Wanfang databases and Google scholar from inception mar,2017 by electronic search, scored literatures with the methodological index for randomized studies evalution tool, quality assessment of the included articles was performed,Revman5.3 was used for the Mate-analysis.Results: Seven randomized controlled trials met the inclusion. The results of Meta-analysis showed that: there is no statistically significant difference was between the self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets : P=0.86,(WMD=-0.01,95%CI=[-0.18,0.16]),there is no statistically significant difference was between the passive self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets : P=0.94,(WMD=0.05,95%CI=[-0.22,0.31]),there is no statistically significant difference was between the active self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets : P=0.12,(WMD=-0.11,95%CI=[-0.24,0.03]).Conclusion: There was insufficient high-quality evidence to support the self-ligating brackets over conventional brackets in the term of accelerate the canine retraction rate during orthodontic treatment.Either active or passive self-ligating brackets had no significant difference compared with the conventional brackets in canine retraction rate.
