Objective:Investigate on the psychological states of undergraduate students by using psychological scales,to explore the relationship between temporomandibular disorders(TMD)and psychological,so as to provide evidence for early psychological intervention.Methods:1.Selected 648 undergraduate students of ShanXi Medical University(207 boys and441 girls, mean age 21.89 + 2.06 years),and divide them in two groups according to oral examination form.2.Guide the subjects to fill in Symptom Checklist(SCL-90),combine the consequence of oral examination form and SCL-90,then analyze the relevance of TMD and psychological states.Results:1.To evaluate the reliability of SCL-90 with the students, except stubborn, the reliability coefficient of each item was over 0.7 with great significance.2.Divided the subjects into two groups based on total points of SCL-90,the subjects who have higher points didn't show a high incidence.3.The TMD group get higher score in anxiety and somatization(P<0.01).The multiple regression analysis showed that restricted opening, joint sounds and massetertenderness were the significant risk factors related to somatization, other, the restricted opening and masseter tenderness also related to anxiety.4.The regression trees used to analysis the relationship between different combination of TMD symptoms and psychological factors, three independent variables included joint sounds, restricted opening and gender, the participants who had bilateral joint sounds had the highest SCL-90 score of(209.7±35.8),followed by the female with unilateral joint sounds and restricted opening(177.3±9.3).The logistic analysis showed that somatization(OR=6.613,P<0.01),anxiety(OR=3.987,P<0.01)are the risk factors related to TMD.Conclusions1.TMD-related symptom like joint sounds and pain may lead to anxiety and somatization, anxiety and somatization are also risk factors related to TMD.It is not clear to define the causality of TMD and psychological states.2.The subjects who has bilateral joint sounds or the female with joint sounds and restricted opening tends to psychological barrier.
