The surgical operation is becoming more and more complex and precise with the development of the modern medical technology. However, pedicle screw implantation surgeries still use the hand-implantation method in many domestic hospitals because the surgery devices are expensive. Thus, the accuracy of the surgery in these hospitals cannot be guaranteed. In this paper,we mainly focus on solving the spine segmentation and registration problems during the pedicle screw implantation surgery. Moreover,we develop a surgery navigation system by combines these two key techniques. The navigation system takes the advantages of the computer-aided system and it is convenient for doctors to use.The main contribution of this thesis in four folds:(1)A 3D deformable model based segmentation method is proposed to segment spine and vertebrae from CT data.(2)A novel 2D/3D registration method which combines learning and geometric transforming is proposed. This registration strategy can reduce the six projection parameters to two parameters, but the accuracy of the registration is not decreased and the registration efficiency is largely increased.(3)A 3D friendly interactive interface software is proposed. The software is designed based on MITK framework and the keyboard and mouse are used as input devices.Furthermore,it is convenient for users to comprehend the posture of pedicle screw since it shows the pedicle screw in multiple views.(4)A prototype of pedicle screw implantation surgery navigation system which combines the segmentation and 2D/3D registration is built. In this thesis,we discuss the key techniques in the pedicle screw implantation surgery and the feasibility of these technologies. We design a pedicle screw implantation navigation system by integrating the technologies described in this thesis. This system has been verified by the government technique team. The navigation system provides an evidence to successfully transfer the research productions to the application.
