Objective To clarify the therapeutic effect of Acupoint Application of traditional Chin ese medicine on mild and moderate knee osteoarthritis(KOA)andprovide a safe and eff ective treatment of mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis.Methods 96 patients with knee mild and moderate osteoarthritis in accordance with the exclusioncriteria randomly divided into Chinesemedicine acupoint application group and oral diclofenac sodium sustained release tablets group,48 patients in each group.The observation group selected Internal and External Xi Yan(ST35),Yang Ling Quan(GB34),Yin Ling Quan(SP9),Xue Hai(SP10),Liang Qiu(ST34),He Ding and A Shi.The acupoint application of Chinese medicine was attached for 10h each time,and once per day was treated for 4 weeks.The control group took Diclofenac Sodium Sustained Release Tablets75mg once per day for 4 weeks.The changes of VAS and WOMAC scale(including joint pain,stiffness and activity of daily living)and the clinical efficiency,compliance and safety in two groups before and after treatment were observed.Results Compared with the control group,there was no significant difference in pain score,stiffness score,daily life difficulty score and total score in the observation gro up(P>0.05)before the treatment.After thetreatment,the pain score,stiffness score,daily activity difficulty score and total score in both groupshad a significant decrease ment(P<0.05).After the treatment,Compared with the control group,the pain score,the stiffness score and the total score of the control group was significantly' lower th an those in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The total effective rate in the group was 87.5%,and it was 79.2%in the controll group(P<0.01).Two cases happened mild skin allergy in the observation group,an d two cases occurred gastrointestinal in the medication group adverse reaction is mor e serious than the observation group.To compare the compilance of the both groups,the expulsion rate of the observation group was 6.3%,the expulsion rateof the con trol group was 10.4%.And two of them were aborted for adverse reactions.Conclusion Acupoint application of Chinese herbal medicine could effectively improve knee pain,stiffness and daily activity function in patients with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis,the curative effect is much better than oral diclofenac Sodium Sustained Release Tablets,and is simple,safe and highly compliant.It is worthy to clinical promotion.
