Objective To investigate the level of lactoferrin LF in elderly women with osteoporosis and the relationship between LF and bone mineral density. Methods A total number of 92 Han elderly female patients(age>60 years old)who were treated in our hospital from July 2017 to February 2018 were included.Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA)was used to measure Lumbar spine, proximal femoral component, femoral condyle, intertrochanteric, total hip bone mineral density(BMD).And according to the WHO diagnostic criteria, the selected subjects were divided into 53 cases of osteoporosis group,28 cases of bone loss reduction group,11 cases of normal bone mass group. The observation subjects were fasted for 8 hours. The next morning, fasting blood was taken and then the serum was separated after centrifugation. The fasting blood glucose, liver and kidney function were examined by the Department of Clinical Laboratory of our Hospital. The body mass index(BMI)was calculated based on the height and weight of the participants, and.BMI = weight/height2.Serum LF concentration was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Through the detection of serum lactoferrin concentration and bone mineral density(BMD)among the osteoporosis group, the bone loss reduction group, and the normal bone mass group, the differences between the groups were compared and the correlation of the LF bone density was analyzed. To understand whether LF has a certain value in the clinical application of senile osteoporosis. Results 1.The serum lactoferrin level in the elderly female osteoporosis group(1164.56±202.11 ug/ml)was lower than the bone mass normal group(1314.02±187.67 ug/ml),and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).2.Lactoferrin and various sites Bone mineral density was significantly correlated(p<0.01).Lactoferrin was positively correlated with L1,L2,L3,L4,and L1-4 BMD,femoral neck, femoral trochanter, intertrochanteric and total hip BMD(r=0.350,r=0.321,r=0.328,r=0.309,r=0.327,r=0.410,r=0.309,r=0336,r=0.352),and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.01).3.Body Weight and L1,L2 L3,L4,L1-4 bone mineral density, femoral neck, femoral condyle, intertrochanteric, total hip bone density were positively correlated.(r=0.453,r=0.354,r=0.391,r=0.394,r=0.402,r=0.300,r=0.270,r=0.252,r=0.283),and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.01).4.Height is positively correlated with bone density of L1,L2,L3,L4,and L1-4,and femoral neck bone density.(r=0.444,r=0.406,r=0.373,r=0.389,r=0.406,r=0.291),and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.01).There was a positive correlation between BMI and L1,L3 bone mineral density, femoral neck, femoral condyle, intertrochanteric and total hip bone density(r=0.021,r=0.043,r=0.049,r=0.022,r=0.048,r = 0.015),the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).6.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum LF levels were protective factors for osteoporosis(r=-0.005,OR=0.995,95%CI 0.992-0.999,p=0.004).Conclusions 1.The concentration of serum lactoferrin was lower in elderly women with osteoporosis than in normal bone mass.2.Spearman correlation analysis showed that serum lactoferrin levels in elderly women were positively correlated with L1,L2,L3,L4,L1-4,femoral neck, femoral trochanter, intertrochanteric and total hip bone density, suggesting that the decrease of serum lactoferrin level may be the influencing factor of osteoporosis in the elderly.Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that serum LF level is a protective factor that affects osteoporosis in the elderly.
