BackgroundThe Gastrointestinal stromal tumor was a kind of malign tumor arised from tissue. The recurrence risk stratification scheme we usually used was NIH,AFIP and modified NIH criteria. However these criteria was limited to predict the recurrence rate when fur more information that would benefit the advanced treatment like DFS and OS were still not clear under this condition. We ne ed to know whether these criteria were associated with the outcomes.MethodsWe use the retrospective method to collect the patients' data from our inpatient database who got GIST and did not received the TKI drugs or chemoradiotherapy after surgery from June 2000 to Jan 2009.Every patients' NIH,AFIP and modified NIH ranking status were then calculated and compared to the DFS and OS.The relationship and influence factors were discussed then. The t test were performed between different groups and ANOVA was used to analyze the inner group difference.Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculated survival rate and Cox method were used to analyze the survival status.SPSS 19.0 and Originpro 2015 SR0 software were used in this study.ResultsWe collected 90 patients' data who meet our standards above of whom the 46 were male and 44 were female. The ages ranged from 26 to 80 years old and the median age was 56 years old.The follow up time ranged from 1 to 82 months and the median was 25 months.Average progressive free survival was 28.1 months, and the median progressive free survival was 24.5 months.Average overall survival was 31.1 months, and the median overall survival was 29.5 months. The DFS and OS of very low, low, intermidate, high risk in NIH criteria was separately 17.5,27.2,38,27.3,17.5,27.4,42.7,32 months,p was 0.406 and 0.928.The DFS and OS of none, very low, low, intermidate, high risk,N/A in AFIP criteria was 17.67,17.82,36.22,27.81,31.4,25.73,17.67,17.82,36.22,31.33,33.8,34.6 months, and p were 0.230 and 0.366.The DFS and OS of very low, low, intermidate, high risk,in M/NIH criteria was 18.8,28.25,36.6,26,18.8,30.9,37.4,30.6 months, and p were 0.096 and 0.651.All the p value in group comparison were larger than 0.05 which indicated that therer were little possibility for the relations. The result of correlate test between DFS and OS was significant correlated as p value was smaller than 0.01.ConclusionThe different risk stratification schemes have some correlations with the outcome just in theory. However,we still could not get the conclusion from the data in our research. From the theory we could learned that the evidences were not found that in the real test results that the survival term of patients with same risk stratification level under the same risk stratification scheme varied widely with no concentrated trends. The survival term of different risk level did not obey the discipline as the higher risk level patients may get shorter survival terms. The risk stratification scheme may have the ability more than we used now,but further research was still needed.
