From the mid-1980's to 1990's, it was the development stage of the western "postmodernism",and it was the key period when postmodernism theory appeared in China, the practice of China contemporary literature and art disseminated cultural factors of western postmodernism in different degree,such as deconstruction,digestion, irony, parody, decentralization, the presence of subversion and post modern discourse,began to enter literary field in our country. At that time, Chinese contemporary literature was under the period of transformation. The effects of postmodernism,directly led to the rise of Chinese vanguard novels. Yu Hua is one of the representative vanguard writers. His subversive creation is similar to Western postmodern fiction, the opportunity of the times and his own life and reading experience directly affected the thinking mode of his creation.This thesis is divided into three parts to study the features of Yu Hua's Postmodernism. First of all I analyze that Yu Hua accepted the postmodernism in the process of writing. The reading experience of western literature influenced his entire creative process, especially Kafka's narrative mode which made Yu Hua find out of the way how to write the novel. Yu Hua won the creation of the main inner freedom from Kafka's novel, it's the time for the discourse right of relative freedom, Yu Hua began to boldly subvert the traditional novel. Secondly, the analysis of his works shows the features of postmodernism, Yu Hua put the characters from the soul, only symbolic absurd characters; paying attention to non-rational life experience in order to understand people's real living condition. Yu Hua's suffering consciousness emerges,which is one of his whole literary conception of profound changes; the history of the novel texture disappeared, major historical events seems to be just a disaster of the characters in the text. He has completed subversion of the collective memory of history. In the third part I mainly analyze the postmodernist characteristics of artistic expression. Yu Hua used the unique point of view and the way of narration,and narrates with calm and objective attitude. At the same time, the text language isseparated between “signifier” and "sigified”,which lead to the " fault ",his text language is different from one-to-one correspondence of the traditional “signifier” and" sigified”; he uses text juxtaposition in the novel, whichever different events are connected, the narration are no longer in the same time or the same space, through the thorough deconstruction mode, ultimately achieve the transcendental aesthetic effect.Through the three parts of content analysis, I will explore the relevance of the deconstructive writing mode and the western postmodern fiction written by Yu Hua.
