In the past half century, "shyness" has been a focus of researches. Compared with non-shy individuals, shy individuals' biggest feature is the low self-esteem and the sensitivity to others' evaluation. Shy individuals tend to believe that others will make negative evaluation on them. Thus, the study on shy individuals' judgment characteristics of others' evaluation is of great social significance. In the current era of highly competitive, peer is no longer just your intimate others, it is also your competitors. Thus, the study on shy and no-shy individuals' differences of social comparison also has time significance. In this study, using experimental paradigms of self-reference, students of Shandong Normal University were tested to explore the differences between shy individuals and no-shy individuals when they judge the others' evaluative vocabularies.Experiment 1 used eye movement experiments, shyness level was between-group independence variable, the object type and lexical nature were within-group independence variables, eye movement index, reaction time and recognition rate were dependent variables. On the basis of experiment 1, used Eye move technology, experiment 2 inspected the individuals' neuro-physiological characteristics of different shyness levels. It adopted a mixed design of 2×2×2, shyness level is between-group independence variable, the object type is within-group independence variable, reaction time and recognition rate were dependent variables. On the basis of experiment 1, Experiment 2 modified the experimental paradigm, used eye movement experiments to explore the differences between shy and no-shy individuals in the social comparison. It adopted a mixed design of 2×2, shyness level is between-group independence variable, the object type and lexical nature were within-group independence variables.Main results of the three experiments are as follows:(1) When shy individuals were choosing the social scenes, they tent to avoid the scenes, which may cause their anxious reactions, and choose the scenes with less or no social facts;(2) shy individuals paid more attention on high-involved social scenes and conduct deeper cognitive process.(3) Shy individuals consumed more cognitive resources on high-involved negative social scenes, and consume less cognitive resources on low-involved positive social scenes(4) compared with shy individuals; no-shy individuals conduct deeper cognitive process on social cognitive explanation trend, but consume less cognitive resources on scenes with no- explanation trend.
