As the mainstream of Chinese traditional culture, Confucianism is the main part of Chinese culture “going out” strategy, so it is crucial for the cultural transmission to translate the Confucian words precisely. It is Chinese-English Dictionaries for Chinese English Learners that are indispensable tools for Chinese learners to learn and use English, and play a leading role for the explanation and translation of Confucian words. Therefore, this thesis will make a research on the microstructure of Confucian words in C-E Dictionaries for CEL.Combining qualitative and quantitative methods, this thesis takes a chance to analyze the problems of the microstructure of Confucian words in three mainstream C-E Dictionaries for CEL(Chinese-English Dictionary made by Wu Guanghua, A New Century Chinese-English Dictionary and New Age Chinese-English Dictionary 2nd edition) by adopting systematic sampling survey. The samples of Confucian words are selected from the Chinese Confucian Words Dictionary. Based on the Dynamic System Theory and the theory of Multidimensional Definition Model, the thesis abstracts Four Principles and constructs the multidimensional microstructure of Confucian words in bilingual dictionaries. Then, it resorts to the corpus of the Center for Chinese Linguistics PKU(CCL for short, including ancient and modern Chinese) to verify the semantic structure of Confucian words and summarizes the problems of the microstructure of Confucian words. Finally it proposes the corresponding methods to optimize the microstructure of the Confucian words in C-E Dictionaries for CEL.Through this research, it is appeared that there are some drawbacks of the microstructure of the Confucian words in C-E Dictionaries for CEL such as the indefinite part of speech labeling, lack of ancient senses and semantic deviation of some equivalents. According to this research, it is found that the corpus is one of the most effective ways to solve these problems. Through the sampling analysis and optimizing advance of the microstructure of the Confucian words, this thesis tries to remedy the shortcomings of the traditional definition of Confucian words in bilingual dictionaries and help to improve the productive competence of Chinese learners. In this way, it can also maintain the national culture security and independence.
