A New Insight On Book Design Adaptation To Digital Era

With the development of science and technology,people now are experiencing the fifth technological revolution,and improving their way of life by the powerful internet technology.Musk,Tesla's CEO,has already successfully achieved rocket retrieving plan.Apple's iPhone redefined smart phone.Nowadays,social communication,shopping,studying and even work can be done with internet.Big data and Cloud Service facilitate the popularity of informationization and the development of smart life.Every year,new techniques in smart phone are launched.Meanwhile,Artificial Intelligence(AI),Virtual Reality(VR)and Augmented Reality(AR)depended new products are emerging.HoloLens,Microsoft's first commercial product based on AR,has been selling from this year.Our proud papermaking technique has been making books as an assemblage of papers for more than one thousand year.In the technology explosion era,everything can be redefined.Kindle and iPad that use electronic screen and e-book have huger sales comparing to traditional publications.Now,reading ways become flexible and diversified.The way people obtaining information also becomes easier and multi-channels.This paper will review the history of book design and predict how book design changes in the future under digital era and the fifth technological revolution which alters people's thinking,aesthetic and life.This paper will study books by different carring materials beginning from ancient bamboo slips and silk cloth to today's paper and screen.Will traditional paper book disappear because of new technique? If not,how and what paper books should change their way of designing in the digital era.What the problems are of e-book and how to solve the problems.With rapid developing of technology,in addition to paper and screen,books may be combined with the new tech AR.However,will new techs influence the book design definition? What are the problems when traditional e-book converting to new tech e-book? What are the main challenges after book design transition? All the questions will be discussed in this paper.In a word,all the purpose of book design is trying to give a better reading experience.This paper will use following methodologies: literature review,summarizing and comparing,speculation and deduction,data analyzing and case study,to give a new thinking of modern book design.
