Static Beauty-On My Watercolor Works

Watercolor has a long history and it was introduced into China from the west after Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Watercolor and traditional Chinese painting share lots of similarities and both of them paint by pigments mixed with water as the medium. Based on such characteristics,watercolor struck root in China and developed rapidly. Nourished by traditional Chinese culture, it got a brand new appearance with both Chinese characteristics and Chinese artistic taste. As the time and society develop,there are more and more cultural exchanges and Chinese watercolor goes forward to modernity and diversification.The Farm series, my watercolor still life paintings, based on the northern rural area of China, selected items closely related to daily life of farmers to paint and showed still lives in the works by realistic description. I hoped to show the life in northern rural area of China by my works and reflect the simple life of Chinese farmers with the simplest pictures and truest emotion to show the simple spirit of farmers.The thesis researched the watercolor techniques in the Farm series and did experiments with different materials. I made different tries in composition and selection of painting tools, learnt and used methods from seniors and tried to innovate. My watercolor still life painting was stated from three aspects, i.e. organization of materials and ideas, process of imprint method experiment and attempt on combining with wrinkle method.During the production process of watercolor still life painting, I gained a lot from these watercolor techniques. The thesis discussed my feelings on watercolor techniques by analyzing works.
