When it comes to impressionism, people always think of those achievements in impressionist oil paintings, but for the artists, impressionist painters can present diversified forms of painting language. Coupled with the idea of impressionism, impressionist painters need some painting tools and materials that can be easy to handle to express their ideal picture. Therefore, oil painting is just a part of all excellent works given by impressionist painters, while watercolor works also present a style different from the past.In this paper, the author discusses the watercolor art provided by impressionist painters. Pissarro is the forerunner for impressionism, while Morisot is the first female impressionist. Their insights and evaluation of watercolor art fully indicate that the watercolor art in impressionist period is an important transition in the development history of watercolors. And the comprehensive exploration of watercolors provided by Morisot and Pissarro helps to find that the combination of watercolor and impressionism presents its unique aesthetic value.The first part of the paper analyzes the relationship between impressionist oil paintings and watercolors and makes a classification of watercolors. The second part will make an artistic analysis of the art features, expression methods and creation thinking of Morisot and Pissarro based on their watercolors and the emotions involved, as well a related comparison between watercolors and oil paintings.
