The Medieval Modes In Debussy's Piano Works

Medieval modes has a long history of the development process,is the western most basic mode system.In modern music creation,the composer uses the technology more widely.Debussy used many medieval modes in their works,but also in the ancient style and other technical means together,forming a unique musical works.Debussy was an innovator,he dares to innovate,create a precedent of twentieth Century Impressionist music.In his music uses lots of composing techniques,such as the use of diatonic,medieval modes,five tone scale,high fold chord,parallel chords,in many techniques in use in the ancient style in Piano Works accounted for the largest proportion.Mode is the foundation of harmony,while the ancient style as a kind of mode,play a decisive role.Medieval modes in his use of,not only retained the medieval simple art,but also the music added a mysterious,hazy atmosphere of Impressionism,so more skillfully use and development of the traditional techniques.In this paper,the piano works of Debussy as the breakthrough point,from the technique of harmony,melody style and rhythm etc,of the use of modal phenomena are detailed,in-depth analysis.By using the method of summarization,reveal his unique music style in the use of medieval modes.This paper is divided into the following three parts:the first chapter:the life and music of Debussy style.This chapter mainly introduces the characteristics of life,music creation of Debussy.The second chapter:the evolution and development of the medieval modes.This chapter describes in ancient style from the Middle Ages to the development process in modern times.The third chapter:the use of modal characteristics.This chapter is the main part of this paper,from mode,harmony,and detailed analysis of the use of the characteristics of medieval modes of Debussy.The conclusion part is on the basis of the above research,summarizes the full text,summarizes the innovation significance in ancient style using the Debussy piano works,and its profound influence on other composers.
