This is a translation report on Chapter 3 “Pastoral” and Chapter 4 “Wilderness” of Ecocriticism by Greg Garrard. The entire book is translated by a group of four, and these two chapters translated cover more than 18000 words in total, conforming to the academic degree requirement. As two important study objects in Ecocriticism,Pastoral and Wilderness are described by the writer, including their different originations and distinct developments in the Old World and the New World.By explaining various natural writings and referencing many ecocritics’ opinions, the writer makes in-depth analysis and study on these two genres, and explores the intrinsic relationship between human beings and Nature. In the process of translation,I mainly adopted the functional equivalence theory to guide my work, with a principle of accurate understanding and smooth expression. Also,I tried my best to create the equivalent effects on the target readers. The report consists of the process of the translation, its guiding translation theory, strategy and methods, the difficulties overcome and reflections on the translation. This translation task offered me a chance to improve my translation skills, helped me promote my translation ability, and made me know more about academic translation, which all will be much beneficial to my future translation career.
