The field cognitive style,which describes the diversities of individuals,concerns individuals organization and information processing depending on the whole perceptual field.Field cognitive style is changing constantly during the growth of individuals.Therefore,the study on the development age and gender features of adolescent junior high school students' field cognitive style,could give general educators an opportunity to understand the law of junior school students' personality development.Moreover,junior school students now is in an important stage of studying.So it is also a question parents and school keep an eye on to explore the factors that influence the academic records of junior school students.The study consists of two parts.The study one using GEFT,investigates whether there are gender differences in field cognitive style among 295 junior school students in Dalian,analyses the score distribution of field cognitive style test between grades and take quantitative research to study the relation between field cognitive style and the scores of Chinese.Based on study one,the study two chooses grade one students as subjects,whose scores of field cognitive style and scores of Chinese are outstandingly related.It uses the design of 2(cognitive style: field independent/dependent)× 3(guide word condition: appearing in the sentence,antonyms,meaningless symbolic cue),and explores the sentence-understanding process related to the score of Chinese.The study focuses on whether field cognitive style and guide word are the factors that result in the difference in sentence-understanding of students,affecting the efficiency of students reading.The results of study one shows that the difference in the score of field cognitive style test between male and female is not so outstanding(p>0.05)and yet the difference between grades is opposite.It also shows that the field cognitive style scores of different grades are related to Chinese scores positively and the correlation of grade one is the highest(r=.702).The study two reveals that the guide word condition and fieldcognitive style have significant interaction.Field cognitive style doesn't have significant main effect,but guide word does.According to the study results,we can make these conclusions:(1)There is not gender difference between different grades of junior school in field cognitive style.The score of field cognitive style is rising from grade one to grade three and the field independence enhances gradually.(2)The Chinese scores of three grades are related to the degree of field independence and it is the most obvious in grade one.The more field independent they are,the better score they get.(3)Guide word has different influence in sentence reading to different field cognitive style individuals.The experimental data conform to activation and diffusion model of information processing theory of field cognitive style.
