As a significant category of Chinese formative arts,printmaking has been spreading for more than one thousand years in Sui and Tang Dynasty,almost 50 years earlier than the printmaking in European countries.Chinese printmaking derived from the new printmaking movement in 1930 s.It was led by Mr.Lu Xun and has been developing until today,which is eighty or so years.Back in 1930 s and 1940 s,modern printmaking is an important part of revolution,and a large amount of classic printmaking works were created during that time.Printmaking art has been spreading and developing among folks.It has various forms and topics,among which powder woodcut is popular for its concise printing method and dignified and strong texture.Multiple colors are made in one plate and it is full of charm and temperament.Powder woodcut has its distinct and unique artistic glamour.The paper focuses on the the powder woodcut and illustrates the author's personal ideas,process and feelings for the creation of the powder woodcut work Lou.The paper firstly introduces the history of Chinese printmaking and then concentrates on the features and advantages of powder woodcut.The paper compares the powder printmaking,mimeograph printmaking and watermark printmaking from eight perspectives,such as color choosing,plate distribution,paper and so on.In the end,the paper presents the printmaking process and the making methods of powder woodcut through the author's creating process.It also shows some techniques,feelings and experiences for powder woodcut making.With personal thinking integrated in the author's graduation creation,the paper not only shows the author's creation level but also a memory of the author's graduation examination from the perspective of printmaking.
