The main contents of Yudizhi are described the geography of each states and county, which based on the government’s administrative division. Its contents refer to the evolution of administrative areas, especially the natural geography of mountains and rivers, lakes, etc. as well as the human geography of tower and Temple. Yudizhi, as a part of chorography, Concentrated reflect the mark of cultural accumulate on natural geography and human geography.In Ming and Qing Dynasty, Hainan area complicated dozens of compilation local chronicles. Among them, there are 8 chronicles directly use the name of Yudizhi, others use the relevant titles, such as Diyuzhi, Yudizhi, Yutuzhi, etc. this paper take Hainan in Ming and Qing Dynasty as the research object, and research all the Yudizhi, which exist in local chronicles that compile in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Including its style, content, value, etc. in addition, summarize its value to local culture, in order to fill up the shortcoming of chorography research, furthermore, Provide a reference for using local chronicle to research Hainan history.There are six parts in this article.In Prolegomenon, we discuss the beginning of Yudizhi, and clarify the significance of this study.The first chapter is the Compiling style of Yudizhi. Mainly introduce its concept, the function of geography map in chorography; and the compile of geography map, containing its beginning, the position in local chronicles, the importance of map and the Graphic relation.The second chapter is the content of Yudizhi. Mainly discuss the domain, landscape, Water conservancy, terrain, climate, property, etc. this part divided into three sections. The first section is the domain that reflected by Yudizhi; the second section is the natural geographical environment; the third section reflect its geographical and cultural characteristics.The third chapter is the comparison of Yudizhi which exist in different state and county chorography. Containing the comparison of Qiongtaizhi compiled in ZhengDe and Qiongzhoufuzhi compiled in WanLi. Qiongtaizhi compiled in ZhengDe and Qiongzhoufuzhi compiled in DaoGuang. Lehuixianzhi and Changhuaxianzhi compiled in KangXi. Qiongshanxianzhi and Yazhouzhi compiled in QianLong. From the outline, drawing the text in detail, map and purpose to compare.The fourth chapter is about the value of Yudizhi and the problem of it. Obviously, Yudizhi has very important value, one is the practical use of its map; one is the description of Hainan humanistic community. Moreover, it can provide the resources for the research of the economic history, the research of the cultural history and the development of the tourism. The shortcoming is the problem of geographical knowledge and the lack of drawing technology.The last chapter we summarize the results and value of this research.
