Expression Of Buddhist Mood On The Design Of Ceramic Utensil Products

The history of Zen & Tea ceremony in C hina had been lasting for more than two thousand years, and nowadays people's refined interest in tea is keener than ever before. But today the industry of tea has been put upside down, and people aggressively over-pursue the quality of tea while ignoring the positive impact on their mentality that the tea things bring along. Zen is originally the soul of teaism while the tea is the carrier carrying Zen culture. Though nowadays almost every tea drinker can make some comments on whether the tea or tea sets are good or bad, they can't taste the serenity and philosophy involved in the tea drinking. This phenomenon is c losely intertwined with the designing of ceramic tea set. Since the flourishing of tea gambling in Song dynasty, the tea set and wares' producing had been focused on their match for the liquor color, water mark, leaf shape and sniffing of tea, gradually ignoring the psychological effect of tea things on people. Reviewing the relevant books and writings about the C hinese ceramic utensil that I referred to during my graduate period, I find that most studies are discussing innovative design of ceramic utensils form aspects such as human engineering, materials science, fashionable and beautiful and humanization, etc., few works studying the utility and decorative design of ceramic utensils from a view that they exert positive psychological effect on people. This study however, has studied the designing of ceramic utensils from the view of Tasting Zen in Tea, transmitting Tasting Zen in Tea culture with ceramic utensils as carrier. I made deep exploration in the raw materials, shape, trailing, accessories and displaying& packaging etc. of ceramic utensils of ancient C hina, carded relevant literatures and picture information, and made combination with current situation of ceramic utensil products in the main producing areas and my attains during the creation, I then made a detailed presentation on how to reflect Buddhist Mood from the details of the designing and producing of ceramic utensils.I hope that people, their interest in Tasting Zen in Tea culture is aroused by proceeding tea things through which they begin to realize that the tea is not only a drink but also a carrier of tea culture, being affected by the Chinese traditional philosophical thinking through the ceramic utensils embodying Buddhist Mood. I also hope the positive effects of this culture shall reduce people's depression in their daily work and life and reduce the flippancy and brutalization, such disharmonies in our society. From a professional point of view, I also hope to lead the design of ceramic tea set to focus on culture connotation, not blindly copying or imitating from the appearance.
