Kuei-feng Tsung-mi's Idea Of True Mind

Kuei-feng Tsung-mi,as the master of the Hua-yen school and He-ze Zen,who lived in the Tang Dynasty which is the break point of Buddhism turning from prosperity to decline.His ideology is comprehensive,but has his own system which allows the different cultures to intermingle.The True Mind Idea as the important part of his ideology is the object of my study.This article consists three parts——the differentiation of the word Mind ?Awareness is True Mind?the Perfect Enlightenment.First,Tsung-mi,distinguish the meaning of “Mind” and divides the Mind into four categories and put forward the theory of True Mind standing in Hua-yen school.He thinks the True Mind is pure?perpetual and can always keep our awareness.Second,according to oneness of substance and function,he proposes that Awareness is True Mind.This Awareness is different from thinking and the wisdom of Buddha.It absorbs He-ze Ch'an's enlightened insight and it is the itself function which is nirvana and enlightened.And the Awareness only can be seen by the way of "no-thinking",which actually is penetrating into the Dharmat,No-raise comes Paramattha”.In addition,True Mind is the perfect enlightenment.From the angle of ontology,the Perfect enlightenment mind,Tathagatagarbha and the Dharmadhatu heart is the same,because they can give rise Akusala and pure Dharma.They are two explanations about the relationship of nounmenon and phenomenon.From the point of Tathagatagarbha is “two doors towards one mind”.However,from the point of the Dharmadhatu,it gives rise nature origin and Coproduction conditionnee.Finally,the True Mind essentially is the same with asvabha^va and parama^rtha-s/u^nyata^.Tsung-mi sets up the theories of the True Mind is position in Dharma-nature School.He uses the directness to point out the reality of True nature and can expound Perpect Enligtenment Ture Mind's real virtue,so that the leaner can be motivated and avoid giving up.
