Margaret Drabble is a famous scholar writer in contemporary British literature and is as famous as Doris Lessing and Angela Carter. She began to write when the feminist movement was rising in 1960s until now. All her 18 books show the relentles s pursuit of the modern female intellectuals for the meaning and value of life in the different stages.In general, modern female intellectuals predicaments in life, constitute a clear thread in Drabble's works. Around the main thread, the inner trajectory of the novel presents the trend of the evolution of the three stages. The first stage is Drabble's "personal novels". This phase of works show the young female choose between love and marriage, parenthood and self-realization. The debut, A Summer Bird-Cage, analyzes young female love and marriage problem. The Millstone further transfers this problem to have children, which female must experience. The second stage is "social novels". This stage of works reflects the middle-aged female life crisis and the response. Works are close with the time background of the society and have more widen subject. The Ice Age shows intellectual women how to grow up in a bad social environment. The Middle Ground shows the middle-aged women how to deal with middle crisis problem. At the third stage, Drabble think about the fate of female in the history of changes. The Seven Sisters focuses on older female life predicaments, borrowing ancient myths and heroic epic retell modern female self-redemption. The Red Queen expresses that modern female intellectuals play an active role in acquiring knowledge, breaking the narrow social space and creating a better human future through building "ancient" and "modern" double time and space. The style of the works is more positive and optimistic.Drabble emphasizes that the purpose of her writing is to find out the daily life problems and their deeper meaning. Thinking about female intellectuals predicaments in life is profound for her all life and writing, which puzzled her, also made her achievement as we know. With her own experiences accumulating and the change of social environment, those female characters involved in all ages. Subjects involved in marriage and family, society, politics, economy, history, culture and other aspects. These Images can inspire modern female intellectuals on how to deal with their lives, and have profound social and practical significance.
