| The Sun Also Rises is one of the representative works of Ernest Hemingway. And it is a sem i-autobiographical based on He mingway’s actual experience in the war, which mainly reflects the living and mental state of the young generation after sufering the trauma of the World War I. The Sun Also Rises has gained great attention since its publication. The critics mostly focus on e xploring the theme, historical background and artistic characteristics of the novel.Based on trauma theory, this thesis discusses the three characters’ traumas and tries to dig up Hemingway’s strong purpose of writing as trauma writing, especially, the thesis attaches great importance to the symptoms of trauma on Hemingway who has the double identity of the author of the novel and the protagon ist of the novel. Moreover, through closely analysis of the characters’ traumas, the thesis em phatically analyzes recovery ways of the writer and the three characters according to the trauma strategies. It mainly includes the writing, identity reconstruction and relation reconstruction. The thesis also aims at analyzing the novel from the poin t of writing s kills, such as autobiographical narration, the use of repetition and metaphor.After making a detailed study of the novel, the author fi nds that the characters’ traumas reflected in this novel can be seen as an epitom e of Hemingway’s personal traumatic feelings. Besides, the author poi nts out that Hemingway’s such description on trauma in the novel is a traum a writing to release his inner trauma and the trauma of the lost generation. |
